Celebrating Jackie Robinson Day — Story of William Clarence Matthews

While baseball fans prepare to celebrate the 74th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking MLB’s color barrier on April 15, 1947, few people know of another rumored to beat Robinson to it 42 years earlier. Almost 90 years before Martin Luther King Jr. made his five-day, 54-mile trek from Selma to…

Isolation, Sadness, Fear and Losing Your Best Friend — A Recipe for Disaster

In September of 2020, I moved down South after living most of my life in the Northeast. COVID and unfortunate events surrounding family left me roaming between friends’ couches from the end of March until early September. The one constant in my life since October 2005 was my Bichon Sammy…

Understanding Hopelessness — Perspectives in Mental Pain

When 2020 enters the realm of conversation, my immediate thoughts explode in disgust. Looking at the irreparable destruction caused to families, individuals, marriages, relationships, businesses, and trust overall, my already fractured view of society increases. What goes through the mind of a person dealing with loss? Does that differ from…

What a F*$%ING Mess We Are In!!

I need to post something to stand up for the everyday nobodies like myself. The lower-middle-class, trampled on for years by corrupt politicians, profiteers looking to exploit the working class for their gain, elitists who look down on us due to color, sex, gender, religion, sexual preference, etc. Lobbyists who…

SEC Week Four: Can Georgia Stop the Tide From Rolling?

Week Four of SEC Football brings us the most anticipated matchup of the season. Georgia invades Tuscaloosa this Saturday. Even without the news today of Nick Saban testing positive for COVID-19, this game had everyone’s interest. While not having the best football coach (college or pro) on the sideline will…

Living As A Cancer Survivor: Saying Goodbye to My Best Friend

It’s been over a month since my last entry, so it’s about time I started to post more consistently. I’m certainly not alone in my desire to see 2020 end ASAP.
